Stage Safety

In thousands of theaters, concert halls, hotels, universities and high schools worldwide, sound and lighting equipment is regularly lifted and hung, often above tens or even hundreds of performers, guests and the audience.
In many cases, there is little control over the lifted and suspended load. If the lifted equipment's weight should exceed the SWL (Safe Working Load) a dangerous situation could arise. This situation might occur for several reasons, for example:
 |
Lack of coordination between the various staff responsible for hanging. |

|
Addition of equipment at a later stage (after the total lifted load has been calculated and approved) due to the need to add more lighting or sound equipment. |
 |
Side loading. |

|
Unequal distribution of the load when several lifting points are used to lift a single construction: Even if the total load does not exceed the total SWL of all the lifting points together, some of the lifting points may carry less load while others are overloaded. |
 |
Attempting to lift equipment which is anchored. |
Overload is dangerous and under certain conditions could cause an accident.
When taking into account the fact that there may be many people under the hung equipment, an accident could result in many casualties and injuries. For this reason overload must be prevented and every effort should be made in order to
achieve safe rigging.
Weighing the equipment during rigging and lifting activities with the option of alarm activation when overload is detected, increases safety during rigging
and eliminates the possibility that a dangerous overload will occur.
RON crane scales offer a wide variety of solutions for stage overload prevention
and stage safety.
The Hilton Tel Aviv has recently equipped its hanging beams (on which sound and lighting equipment is lifted and hung) with RON Crane Scales' stage overload prevention systems that halt lifting automatically when overload is detected, for increased stage safety:
The above photos show an example of RON Crane Scales' stage overload prevention systems, that ensure safe rigging by weighing during rigging, using two load cells installed on each of the lifting beams on which the sound and lighting equipment is hung.
If the suspended equipment's weight exceeds the permitted load, it sends a signal to the control box and stops the lifting.
